Ever since I first saw a picture of a Do-It-Yourself hover tank back in the day I'd always wanted to try it out.
Last week I finally just went and did it.
A good recreation of the original White Dwarf photo.
The original picture that inspired me.
I decided right off the bat that I wanted a remote controlled weapon turret instead of a traditional turret. It made more sense to me in a small vehicle to have the guns on remote than make a bulky turret. It gives a more futuristic look as well.
There was a lot of start and stop and piecing my way through designing the tank. the forward gun is off a set of futuristic Army Men and I really love it. The plasticard wings worked out nicely. I added Tamiya backpacks on external stowage.
The cardstock body details were a little harder. I ended up going back and forth on nose detail. On a future build I would have just left the nose clean or added a couple of small jewels on each side as headlights.
I painted the tank with a traditional 40k green/tan stripe camo. Then I went on and tried my hand at freehand stripes and details.
A fun build. In the future I'd use all plasticard instead of any cardstock. For sure make sure to do a cleaner job with all the glue; the superglue residue from removed greeble ended up texutring my vehicle in a bad way.
Still super fun, now I can run it as a counts-as Imperial Guard Chimera for a high tech guard force.
